Illustrated very colorful children's book about the chickens that Aunt Sissy takes care of. She makes sure they have food and a nice house to live in.
They in turn give her eggs. One day she finds an abandoned egg and brings it to the head chicken to sit on. The egg hatches and it's not quite a chicken but something else...
Gander grew up and he likes the water and puddles and being outside. The chickens do not. Gander protects them against the dog barking and other noises.
He is so brave. Gander must go south as the weather is cold now and he's so big, too big to stay inside. He has big wings and he can fly. The others tell him to come visit in the spring.
He tells them how they can be the same as he is...
