1-800-Cupid by Josie Riviera
First time reading this author and loved all the details. Love learning about different locations in the book, felt as if I was there also!
Story starts out with Candee (works at the local hardware store) and she lives with her sister, Desiree (works at country club) and she's into real estate. She bids on the mansion at the end of the street and noone has lived in it for many years.
She hopes no one else wants to buy it-it's in Roses, NC. Story also follows Teddy and his friend (Rob) in FL and they are into helping his nephew who needs medical surgeries. Teddy meets her and expects a woman over 50 as the real estate business has been operating for over 30 years.
Candee shows other places in the area to Teddy and he shows an interest in her mansion-she thinks it's hers already. She plans to redo the place for disadvantaged children.
He and his friend hope to flip a house for a living. She is heavily into beagle dogs and volunteers also at no kill shelter. Misunderstanding and you wonder if they will ever be together again...
Lots of surprises in this book and like how they change plans and just go with things.
Love ending did NOT see that coming. Recipe at the end-another surprise!
Other works by the author are highlighted at the end. Can't wait to read more from this author.
Received this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.

1-800-CHRISTMAS by Josie Riviera
Book starts out with Desiree and she realizes she's overeatten near the holidays...She now owns a house that is need of repairs and is a lawyer.
Her sister, foster kids have not had a real Christmas as their parents were alcoholics. Now that her sister is married her brother in law helps with getting a man staying at the house while bringing it up to date.
Keiran shows up, an Irishman and she remembers him from high school-the rich kid. He's left his last girlfriend and hopes to work enough so he can buy and run his own store. His parents run a bar and serve food.
They spend time together as in a date after the work day has finished. Love how she sprinkles Christmas all over the house-it sounds very festive with his hel of the huge tree.
His father wanted him to pursue his football career and Keiran just wants to open his own pub and cook food. He has many special family recipes and they sound delicious.
She needs a stable guy and Keiran doens't even know if he wants to do carpentry or run the pub so she needs to set him straight...
Love baking contest they have set up in town for others to select a winner. This story can go either way with their continued relationship... His ex shows up and wants a portion of his money that she's not earned and there are other disturbing details.
When he ends up leaving town with the ex Desiree has no idea if he will even return for Christmas. She prays to God to make a miracle occur as he's the only one that can.
Bonus recipe included. Love how determined she is to make this a special Christmas.

1-800-IRELAND: A Sweet Contemporary Romance Novella (Flipping For You Book 3) by Josie Riviera
Another great story from the author.
Have followed this series and enjoyed them all.
This one starts out with Kathleen who's relocated from Ireland to NC, a small town called Roses. She lives above her new store-a tea house serving real Irish bread to name a few items on her menu.
Candy, the one who set up the apartment and saw to all the new owners needs from the US side also has notified Rob, her friend in FL who bakes cakes and cupcakes in his own shop.
He's older and not quite the catch of the day-love this that he's just a regular guy and kinda out of shape.
kathleeen has it set in her dreams about her shop but Maureen knows she will need help. Rob needs time away from his own shop so travels there to see what it will need, in his opinion to make it a success.
He never expected to find Kathleen so charming! Like the challenge they take part it. So many lovely detailed descriptions, I can just picture it for real.
Loved hearing all about starting up the business-priceless information!
Some characters from the series make an appearance but you are given all details aobut them so you're not left in the dark.
This can be read as a standalone! Irish slang words are explained in the conversations they have.
Misunderstandings and you wonder if they will ever get back together to see if they have what it takes to be a couple.
Recipe included! Note from the author is included at the end.
Acknowledgements and about the author is included. Offer to join first readers group.

This book starts out with Belle and she's in a foul mood because she has to relocate along with her business of horse lessons.

On the way to one of the horse lessons she notices a man at a balcony who is crying and she wants to help him but the traffic has freed up.
Megan, one of her students brings her father along and he was the man on the balcony. He is terrified of animals but the lessons are helping Megan.
When he hears they are to end he jumps at the change to help renovate her apartment and barn area so she can continue giving Megan lessons.
The rent is cheap and she can also afford the stable for their horse and her own. She relocates and he accompanies Megan often, but then there are other times He's gone for so long that she doesn't hear from him.
They start to get close to one another but when he leaves for work she has to call it off.
You wonder if they can continue with a long distance romance or just end it.
Love the treasures I found in this book: Scottish sayings, recipe, beach and horses.

The Visitor by Joanne DeMaio

The Visitor by Joanne DeMaio

The Visitor (The Seaside Saga Book 18) by by Joanne DeMaio
This book starts out with one of the crew asking for help but in his own words... he is not sure anybody can help him at all.
Love catching up with everybody who comes to Stony Point, CT. Glimpses of their past years there and the main tragic events of their lifes.
Love hearing how not only one answers the call for help but many others in their own way.
Such a tragic event, emotional, couldn't put this down til I was totally finished, was reading to fast I got it done in just a few hours.
Love the adventures, the architecture, the water, memontos of those gone who still matter and can make a difference, caring and sharing and just being there for one another.
Seeing fear and anger erupt as others rush to give hugs, and not just a short hug, hte longer ones that matter.
Summers over at the point and construction can resume. More notes of Neil's notebook, love all these gems.
Potato on muddy pants, lobster gauge cufflink, pewter watch, all memories of many linked together.

Great read. Lots of reference, resources where information is quoted from throughout the book.
Lots of different philosophies, like comparison of different religions and really like common sense traits that we should all possess or strive to achieve.
Thought this would be more of a story but happy with knowledge I learned.

Enjoy this read as it's about AI and how it has impacted our lives in the past.
So many references and resources are quoted at the end, along with author notes at every chapter
Such information as to how AI was used in the medical field which I'm aware of with my own test results and follow up procedures but they also used it in Flint, MI lead water pipe investigation.
Interesting to learn so many details about this and other events that occurred. Would’ve been interesting to learn how knitting mills in our neighborhood could’ve used this for production.
Like AI in computer as we learned ourselves and created programs to determine the best for us to buy. We set criteria and it has always picked the right device, appliance, any big purchase we've made.
Enjoyed the discussion and comparison with when electricity was first introduced in the US, similar to how AI, as many are leery because they don't understand it.
So cool how it all works and is working in today’s world and for the future.

The Charm Bracelet

The Charm Bracelet by Viola Shipman

The Charm Bracelet by Viola Shipman
Have a charm bracelet myself and for the past 50 or so years I've received charms to put on for special occasions and Christmas.
Love that this story is about a whole family, a mother, her daughte rand her daughter.
Like hearing how the daughter has to deal with her aging mother and what that entails as far as health issues.
Chapters go back to when they were each young girls living in MI on the water, their lives then and the present day.
Love charms, state and it's descriptions of events and life in general.
Borrowed this book from Libby from my local library and this is my honest opinion.

The Book Spy by Alan Hlad

The Book Spy by Alan Hlad

The Book Spy by Alan Hlad
Really enjoying this book as it's about a Portuguese father and mother who make it to US and raise their daughter.
Love how Maria is driven and works hard at it.
She's a microphotography artist and knows her trade so well she's trained others who get top positions overseas microfilming newspapers from all countries.
She wants to be right beside him and they work well together. Love how Astors play a part in this read.
Really loved learning of the French freedom trail as it starts at the vineyard and refugees are able to make it to Portugal and then onto US to freedom.
Very familiar with SOE and this is right along that path...
Like how the book goes to present, back to the past so you can fit the missing pieces in yourself.
So many horrific, tragic events during war times, but also touching close moments. So unpredictable and especially the outcome.
Love travel, information, careers, descriptive details, ocean plane, fashion, jewelry, tough times and how all survive. Would read more works from this author, it’s really good. Something for everyone to cherish.
I received this review book from The Kensington Between The Chapters Review Books and this is my honest opinion.

Living The Best Day Ever by Hendri Coetzee

Living the Best Day Ever by Hendri Coetzee
Journey through rough terrain and civil war to name a few obstacles in their way.
Rapids, flat rocks, hippos, tree roots under water, wartime with rapes, cannibalism threats…
Love that Ernest Shackleton is mentioned in this this, asking for others to join his expedition and he tells you the extremes of joining....
Like the others Hendri picks to go on the trek and what each brings to the team effort.
He puts everything he has into the expeditions and enjoys them right along with the others.
Liked this memoir of the Great White Explorer.
Life is chronicled at the end along with references and resources.
Received this review copy from the publisher and this is my honest opinion.

Virgins of Venice

The Virgins of Venice by Gina Buonaguro

The Virgins of Venice by Gina Buonaguro
1509 Venice
Rosa and Justina are the two daughters of the family, 13 and 17.
Pablo is the elder son who is to inherit the estate but due to father's debts he has made decisions that will affect the whole house. It's all about the elder son inheriting the estate while everybody else has to suffer and sacrifice.
Love how she is able to do what she loves, writing and how it just takes off and someone wants to publish it...
This story is filled with heartache, sacrifices, hardships, struggles in every regard you can imagine and then some. Events, war, personal and political in the area at the time also sway the outcome of their lifes as time goes on.
Loved learning about Venice, islands, Grand Canal and life around it, and new words for me to look up.
Captivating story is told from Justina's point of view but encompasses so many.
Resources and acknowledgments are mentioned at the back of the book. Love learning how this book came about. First time reading this author and can’t wait to read more of her works.
Received this review copy from the publisher and this is my honest opinion.

Our Blue Orange by A.R. Merrydew

Our Blue Orange by A.R. Merrydew
Past, present and future and what happens when they collide.
Really like AI parts of this story and how the coders are the ones to be saved, at all costs.
They take on a realm of their own by having names and getting teeth painted blue. It's a fad and hilarious at times to me.
Like when they take a stand and do things their way.
Rebellious at times but they don't want to take over the world.
Look at what could happen to our world as we know it if things get out of hand with AI.
Love following the mystery and when they look for certain device and it was right in front of them the whole time, great hiding place!
Received this review copy from the publisher and this is my honest opinion.

Parabellum

Parabellum by Greg Hickey

Parabellum: A Literary Crime Novel by Greg Hickey
Really interested read. Words on the page jumped out at me, in full color and expressions I could feel for myself. Prepare for war…
When author describes a scenes you not only see it, feel it but can smell it and everything around you.
Would make a perfect movie.
Starts when the coroners office van is picking up dead bodies at the beach.
Then we go back in time to discover there are four people being treated for brains problems and we learn all about them at present.
Some glimpses of their past come into play also. Medical conditions and therapies that sometimes work are discussed as you follow their journeys along the way.
Any of them would be the shooter or all of them. Find out for yourself, great read. First time author for me and can't wait to review more of his works.
There is so much to this book, loved learning about Chicago and the various locations as I've never visited myself.
Received this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.

The Fourth Enemy A Daniel Pitt Novel by Anne Perry
First time reading this series and really enjoy it, enough to get the others. Can be read as a stand alone as you are brought up to date on the characters.
This story starts with the family waiting for Mariam's father to show up for dinner.
He's retired and will be announcing who will take his place at the firm. Daniel also works there but he knows he's not been there very long to get the position.
We find out more about the husband and wife and she's a forensic pathologist. Love learning how she and her female boss both got their degrees in Holland as England don’t allow women to do that type of job.
Like hearing of the suffrage movement in England.
As the story goes along everybody is on the scene at the courthouse when they figure out there's a man who's using others money fraudulently.
Clues are revealed and so many hope for such a good outcome. There are events that others want the court procedures to stop.
When you find out what all these incidents have in common you have one heck of a really good read.
Like understanding how this all works out, the travel, how peoples jobs are done, and mysteries.
Received this review copy from Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine, Ballantine Books via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

Dear Barack

Dear Barack - The Extraordinary Partnership of Barack Obama and Angela Merkel ebook by Claudia Clark

Dear Barack: The Extraordinary Partnership of Barack Obama and Angela Merkel by Claudia Clarke
Starts with Barack and Merkel; their births, educations and work after school. Story follows each at the same time
as their lives go on and lead to politics.
What I like are all marked notes of events and other things as they are explained further in detail at the end of the book.
Like how world changes impacts each of their countries and how they are able to solve them in each of their countries. Have a better understanding of the G8 and sequence of things that occurred with decisions current president changed to reflect Baracks decisions.
Received this review copy from AIA Publishing and this is my honest opinion.

The Confidante by Christopher C. Gorham

The Confidante by Christopher C. Gorham

The Confidante by Christopher C. Gorham
Love this read as it's about a lot of different subjects: Politics, romance, immigration, wars, surviving through the hard times and programs started: CCC New Deal, different projects, plans, GI Bill SSI, and Medicare, Veterans Aid.
Love learning all the background details. Super love how she listened to the men in the trenches when she'd visit during wartime to find out how things were with them. Love how she called the boy’s parents to tell them how she found the men she talked to, their appearance, and other little tidbits a parents needs to hear about.
Like understanding how GI Bill got off the ground, FDR and was hoping to hear more about his secret service men who protected him as I understand my mother’s uncle was one of them but there was no mention of them.
Such a fascinating read about Anna Rosenberg and how the family came to the US and under what circumstances. She hit the ground running and listened, that was her secret, just listen to what they want. She settled many disputes, strikes, etc.
Like hearing of her fashion, hats, etc. Noted throughout the book, the excerpts are explained in further detail at the end. Notes form magazines, newspapers, radio, meetings, etc are also detailed. About the author and acknowledgments are also included.
I received this review book from The Kensington Between The Chapters Review Books and this is my honest opinion.

Montana Cowboy Bride by Jane Porter

Montana Cowboy Bride by Jane Porter
This story starts out with Briar and she's been in touch with her brother after years and she doesn't feel so welcome.
When her father leaves to go to Australia she's on her own and other events occur and forces her to seek out her brother and his family again, along with her horse.
She's not so dependent on others but can use guidance and she knows she has to get her act together.
Story is also following not only her brother Cade and his family but a ranch hand, Jet who looks after the ranch and daily things.
Love hearing from Miss Warner the owner and her house that is open to all.
What I love about this story is catching up with Cade and his family as they grow, Miss Warner and how welcoming she still is, the ranch and how it all works.
Like conflicts between people and obstacles and choices one must make in time.
Such hard choices, emotional story, beautiful locations and people.

Spy: A Novel by Danielle Steel

Spy by Danielle Steel
Hampshire, England 1939
Starts out with Alex and she's just had her coming out party and life continues as the war starts and her brothers enlist. She does too as a driver in the city.
Soon after others hear of her expertise in many foreign languages and she gets a job with SOE. She loves the spy field but knows she can't talk about it for 20 years after the facts.
She develops a relationship with Richard and he has his own secrets as he's a pilot.
Love how the story goes, hardships and rewards. Parents take on a dozen children who are sometimes orphaned and other times they return to their parents after the war.
I recall a Walton family show where they had children from England come to live in VA with them.
As years go on, we get to follow her travel with her spouse to so many countries. Even her services are needed. Love hearing about MI6 as I've only seen glimpses of them in the books I read.
Love the knitting especially that her mother and others tending to the children did for the war efforts.
Alex is so talented even with her own children. Locations are so precise and clear.
She meets many men who want to sway her to their side....love hearing of the clothes she's able to wear and clothing stores in Paris.
